Spotlight on Glenn Barr’s ‘Brooklyn Dreams’

While searching for a memo post cover, I stumbled across some posts from artists I really like, including Izzy Burton and Glenn Barr.

Apparently, Glenn Barr has a new graphic novel he’s illustrated with a writer called Brooklyn Dreams.

He is very adept at oil and can render fully realistic portraits and scenes. But he is just as capable at line drawing and highly stylized illustrations that feel loose and simple.

Looking at his work in detail, I can see that even his line work is done with brushes instead of a pen. That is amazing brush handling. There is no digital rendering here. Just a great command of oil and brushes. I can see the layering all done on a physical canvas. This is a technique I’d love to learn, but digitally, of course.
